Joplin Fire Department Employment Requirements

Joplin Fire Department has joined the Tri-state Fire Recruitment Alliance. The Alliance conducts Firefighter recruit testing bi-annually in various locations.

TRI-STATE FIRE RECRUITMENT ALLIANCE Entry-Level FIREFIGHTER Testing

Tri-State Fire Recruitment Alliance includes: Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District; Joplin Fire Department; Neosho Fire Department; Nevada Fire Department; Redings Mill Fire Protection District; and Strafford Fire Protection District. The Alliance will be conducting a pre-employment written & physical ability test (PAT) to establish a hiring pool for future hiring’s for a 12 month period.

Test Prerequisites: Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, legally entitled to work in the U.S. and have a valid driver’s license.

Hiring Prerequisites: Each member Department maintains its own hiring prerequisites which are available on their web sites. Some college education is desirable; as are EMT, Firefighter II, and paramedic certifications (certain departments prefer applicants with EMT certification but it is not required to take this test).

To participate in testing a registration form must be received with a $75 cashiers check, personal check or money order mailed or taken to the City of Joplin, Human Resources Office, 602 S. Main Street, Joplin, MO 64801 as announced prior to the actual testing date. Confirmation of registration, with PAT schedule will be distributed on receipt of registration and fee. Download the registration form on this web site or contact the other participating agencies listed above. Forms and payment should be returned ONLY to City of Joplin by the deadline.

All new Joplin fire personnel must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Missouri Certified Firefighter 1 and 2 or certification in Firefighter 1 and 2 from an
    IFSAC state or ProBoard
  • Missouri Licensed Emergency Medical Technician or National registered Emergency Medical Technician
  • Possess a valid Drivers License
  • Tri-state Recruitment Alliance Application Package
